WasteMINZ have just created a factsheet for organisers of events on how to create effective recycling and rubbish signage to maximise recycling and minimisation contamination at events. You can download it here.
If you would like to minimise the rubbish created by your event, to increase the amount recycled and to reduce contamination then good signage is key.
Children, tourists and speakers of English as a second language will also find it easier to sort their waste if simple and effective signage is used.
The WasteMINZ factsheet explains the different kinds of signage you can use and outlines what you need to take into account when you are developing your signage. Key considerations include:
- Is your event inside or outside, i.e. does your signage need to be weatherproof?
- Will you be reusing your signage at multiple events?
- Does your signage need to be durable?
- Will your signage fit easily into the back of a car?
- Is your event family orientated i.e. will you need to have signage at child height?
- Will you have staff explaining to the public where to put their rubbish or will you be solely relying on the signage?
