Strengthening Communities Hui early-bird registrations close 20 August – funding assistance available

Collective Action on Climate Change is the theme this year

The Strengthening Communities Hui is the annual gathering of Environment Hubs Aotearoa, the Community Energy Network and the Zero Waste Network. Each of our networks and organisations make a positive contribution to reducing greenhouse gases and providing pathways to climate change action. With the recent Climate Change Commission report going to government, now is the right time to get together and make a shared plan of action. How can we work closer and smarter to increase the impact we’re having? What are some of the skills we need to do this? What are the things that our flaxroots organisations see as the piorities for collective action in this space?

Day one of the hui will include an optional site tour to some local Waikato projects to act as inspiration.

Day two is our chance to spend time as networks, focused on energy, zero waste and environment hub specific issues. Then we’ll get a chance to get out on the water with a waka ama race.

Day three is when we’ll come together as a whole to work on developing some collective action plans.

Early bird registration rates are available until 20 August. The Hui will be held from 15-17 September at Lake Karāpiro. More details about the hui programme is available on the Strengthening Communities website

Financial Assistance Available

We’re keen to get a wide range of voices involved in our hui conversations, so we’re offering some free or subsidised places to local youth, kaumatua and community group reps who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend. If you know of anyone in the Waikato region that you think it would be good to have join us, particularly on the Friday at the session focused on Climate Change action, then please send them in our direction before the 10th September.
